As we age, it is normal for our eyelids to begin to sag and under-eye bags and puffiness to form. Various factors contribute to the change in our eyelids, including age, genetics, environmental factors, medical conditions, and lifestyle choices. Changes in our eyelids can affect our entire appearance causing us to look sad, tired, angry, or sick when we feel the opposite, causing us to struggle with showing our genuine emotions through our eyes and exuding self-confidence. In some cases, eyelid drooping can cause vision impairment.
If you find yourself struggling with sagging eyelids, under-eye bags, or vision problems due to sagging eyelid skin, our expert team at IDI can help through innovative treatment in an eyelid lift surgery. Book an appointment to discuss the best treatment option for your eyes today.
Am I the right candidate for eyelid lift surgery?
The good news is that nearly everyone can get a blepharoplasty or eyelid lift surgery based on their unique cosmetic and aesthetic goals. This procedure is especially recommended for those struggling with vision impairment due to sagging eyelid skin. Other candidates for eyelid lift surgery include:
- Patients with saggy eyelid skin that lowers their overall self-confidence
- Those with under-eye bags that want a more rested, youthful glow
- Patients with excess fat or skin that contributes to the sagging of their upper or lower eyelids.
- Those who experience chronic puffiness under their eye, even after lifestyle changes
Understanding Eyelid Lift Surgery
Performed by cosmetic professionals at IDI, eyelid lift surgery is an outpatient procedure that requires general anesthesia. Patients can opt into upper and lower eyelid surgery based on their specific treatment goals. Upper eyelid lift surgery requires incisions along the upper lid’s natural fold to mask scars. Excess skin, fat, and muscle tissue will be removed, and the eyelids will be positioned into place.
In contrast, lower eyelid lift surgery requires incisions on the interior portion of the bottom lid. Once made, excess skin and fat that may be causing puffiness will be removed, and the eyelid will be repositioned as necessary. In both instances, small sutures will be used to close the incision sites. If both the upper and lower eyelid is treated, surgery time is about two hours.
General side effects include tightness around the eyes, blurry vision, light sensitivity, bruising, and swelling that can last one to two weeks post-surgery. However, long-lasting results are immediate and often include a more rested, youthful facial appearance.
